The National Youth Chamber Orchestra (NYCO) is directed from the leader’s chair by Christopher Hirons, and has performed at prestigious venues around the country and abroad. In 2000 the NYCO performed at the BBC Proms Millennium Youth Day in the Royal Albert Hall, London, which was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, and in 2009 the orchestra played at the Cheltenham Music Festival. There are places for five desks of 1st and 2nd violins, four desks of violas, four desks of ‘cellos and three double basses. Spaces are also available for two each of flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, trumpets and horns. During the residential week there are full and sectional rehearsals with tutors for each section, and a chamber music programme, directed by Melanie Ragge, prepares selected players for a public chamber concert during the course.

Pulcinella - Stravinsky
The Birds - Respighi
